TISD Receives Distinguished Achievement in Communications

Tyler ISD received a total of 18 awards for distinguished achievement in school communications.  The awards were announced at the Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) Star Awards Celebration on February 23 during the association’s annual conference in Austin, Texas.  READ MORE

 

TJC To Offer Dual Credit EMT Courses

Tyler Junior College is expanding its reach by offering a dual credit EMT course at a couple of area high schools.  The emergency medical technician-basic program already is in progress at Grand Saline High School. And the college intends to expand the program this fall by making it available to Tyler ISD students.

 

TISD, UT Tyler Partnership May Aid Struggling Middle Schools

A proposed agreement between Tyler ISD and The University of Texas at Tyler could provide some solutions for struggling schools, officials said.  TISD Superintendent Dr. Randy Reid told board members Thursday that the district has been in the process of discussing a partnership with the university.

 

Robotics Program Helps Teach Math, Culminates With Contest At John Tyler

The competition resembled a high school basketball game.  Coaches shouted, “Block him! Block him!”  Spectators gasped as the ball barely missed its target.  And students bowed in thanks for their accomplishments.

Tyler ISD is excited to have four campuses certified in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program.  The following middle schools and high school became AVID certified sites at the end of the 2009: Boulter, Moore, and Stewart middle schools and John Tyler High School.  READ MORE

 

TISD Staff and Students Join to Help Earthquake Victims
As most of the country is seeing the devastation and despair of the families of Haiti, it is no surprise that our own Tyler ISD family has risen to the occasion.  The staff and students around the district have taken on fund-raising efforts for the past several weeks in the form of giving their pizza money, wearing blue jeans for a day, or selling food items to collect what they can to help with the disaster relief.  READ MORE
