GEAR-UP stands for Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. It is a competitive grant awarded to the University of Texas at Tyler and is designed to increase the number of low income students to enter and succeed in post secondary education. It is a six-year grant to provide services at high poverty middle and high schools. The grant services an entire cohort of students and follows that cohort from 7th grade through high school. Tyler ISD is the partner school district for the UT Tyler grant.
