News Release Tyler ISD Foundation Receives Support for Teacher & Campus Grants From the Junior League of Tyler School bells will soon be ringing at Tyler ISD but the volunteers from the Junior League of Tyler are already planning their support of the Tyler ISD Foundation.
Over the past two years, The Junior League of Tyler has awarded the Tyler ISD Foundation two grants in support of the Teacher & Campus Grants Program, totaling $30,000. The Teacher & Campus Grants Program provides District teachers, teams of teachers or campuses with financial support to implement innovative programs in their classrooms or campus-wide.
“We are so grateful for the support of the Junior League of Tyler,” said Larry Goddard, Executive Director of the Tyler ISD Foundation. “The more money we receive from generous supporters of public education like the Junior League of Tyler, the more money we have to give back to the teachers for their innovative programs which helps alleviate the pressures of budgeting.”
Not only has the Junior League of Tyler provided for the Tyler ISD Foundation financially, but they have also recently assigned five volunteers for the second year in a row. The volunteers from the Junior League of Tyler assist in reading and grading the Teacher & Campus Grants proposals and then plan a creative and fun way to present the awards to the teachers and campuses. Each volunteer promises to provide 60 hours of service to the Tyler ISD Foundation.
“Volunteering with the Tyler ISD Foundation has been a very rewarding experience for me,” said Gay Smith of Southside Bank who volunteered in 2007-2008 and is now a Tyler ISD Foundation Board Director. “We were able to see the smiling faces of the teachers and their students first-hand. It’s gratifying to experience the whole grants process, from reading the grant to seeing it come to fruition in a teacher’s classroom .”
The Tyler ISD Foundation and Junior League volunteers will be awarding grants for the fall 2008 cycle on August 21st at the Tyler ISD Convocation at Green Acres Baptist Church.
This year’s volunteers include: Dr. Amy Mullins, Julie Gibson, Amie Wilson, Tonya Skrocki and Tammy Johnson.
