Win First Place Statewide Golden Trowel Award

The Texas Masonry Council has awarded Eubanks Harris Roberts Craig Architects, Inc. with the 2008 Golden Trowel First Place State Award for the Tyler ISD new Douglas Elementary School.  This award was created in 1989 by the United Masonry Contractors Association to recognize and encourage excellence in all phases of masonry construction.  The Golden Trowel award is given annually to an architect and a masonry contractor, each of whom has demonstrated excellence in their joint efforts in executing a creative, innovative masonry project.

Douglas Elementary features a variety of masonry products with various textures and colors that provide unique articulation:  these include brick, stone-faced and burnished concrete masonry units, and cast stone.  Additionally, Cast Stone accents at each end of the primary classroom wing visually connect to the historical image of the original Douglas Elementary building.   Early on, the Tyler Board of Trustees selected masonry materials as the primary exterior wall material, for a timeless look and high quality performance.

Prior to the state award, Douglas Elementary School was also recognized as Honorable Mention in the regional competition.
