Dixie Elementary Electrical Shortage

At approximately 12:35 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24, an electrical shortage within an alarm box occurred in the kitchen area of Dixie Elementary School.  The smoke detector system was activated and called the Tyler Fire Department, which responded immediately.  The students were quickly evacuated.

The sprinkler system did not activate due to the limited smoke and no flames associated with the incident.  Damage was limited to a circuit panel and is in the process of being replaced.

“Although this is an unfortunate incident, it is good to know all the safety equipment and procedures worked well resulting in minimal damage and no injury,” said Tyler ISD Superintendent Randy Reid.

The Tyler Fire Department deemed the building suitable for occupancy and the students returned to the building at approximately 12:50 p.m.  Letters will be sent home to all Dixie Elementary parents explaining what occurred.
