872 - DISTRICT POLICE OFFICER


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED

  2. Certified Peace Officer, or

  3. Meet all requirements for certification by Texas Commission on Law Enforcement

  4. General knowledge of criminal investigation, police report writing, and criminal laws

  5. Training in subduing offenders, including use of firearms and   handcuffs

  6. Valid Texas driver’s license

  7. Background in law enforcement or related work experience

  8. Must have thorough knowledge of the family code as it relates to juveniles.

  9. Must possess the ability, patience, and appropriate attitude to impact safety, order and discipline by interacting with students and employees of TISD.
     

REPORTS TO:        ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES

JOB GOALS:

Provide for the safety of all students, faculty, and staff and the security of all district and campus property and equipment.  Assist the Assistant superintendent for Administrative Services in the development and implementation of procedures that will ensure the protection of all district personnel and property and aesthetic attractiveness, so that each student may be provided with an outdoor environment both pleasing to look at and good to play in.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades Paygrade: 7; Estimated 226 days; estimated 8 hours daily


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.    

Patrol assigned routes walking or driving within district buildings and grounds to prevent fires, fire theft, vandalism, and illegal entries.

2.    

Enforce laws, including federal and state statutes, and district rules and regulations.

3.    

Maintains liaison with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including assisting in the serving of warrants within district boundaries.

4.    

Inspect and secure doors, windows, lights, and gates when building is vacant.

5.    

Respond and investigate any calls from campuses concerning security problems.

6.    

Assume responsibility for the proper operation of the buildings’ alarm system.

7.    

Notify police, fire department, or other appropriate authority of any situation requiring immediate or prompt attention.

8.    

Prepare offense and incident reports and ensure thoroughness of information contained in police reports.

9.    

Coordinate with other administrators and law enforcement agencies in obtaining additional security help for special events or school activities.

10. 

Ensure sound security measures for the transfer of funds.

11. 

Control traffic and parking on the school campus.

12. 

Give directions or act as a guide to authorized visitors.

13. 

Complies with directions and instructions from supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

14. 

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.

15. 

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

16. 

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

17. 

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

18. 

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

19. 

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

 

 

EQUIPMENT USED: Ability to use firearms, handcuffs, alarm systems, fire extinguishers, and/or security equipment

Mental Demands:  Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress, and work independently.

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing; ability to operate a motor vehicle; specific hearing and visual requirements; ability to control sudden violent or extreme physical acts of others and exhibit rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously.  May be subjected to adverse and hazardous working  conditions.  Work outdoors in varying climate conditions; drive in all different areas of district at add hours; on call 24 hours a day.
