912A - SCHOOL BUS MONITOR - ST. LOUIS


QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or GED

  2. Ability to read, write, and understand the English language

  3. Demonstrates interest in and aptitude for work to be performed

  4. Ability to grow professionally

  5. Acceptable criminal history

  6. Desire and ability to work with and communicate with staff, students, and other bus drivers/monitors

  7. Posess adgility and strength for wheelchair work.

REPORTS TO:        DIRECTOR, SCHEDULING AND ROUTING TEAM LEADER

JOB GOALS:

  1. Provide safe, efficient transportation for assigned riders

  2. Complete and submit all reports necessary for department records

  3. Assist in accomplishing department goals


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Noncontractual (At-will); Manual/Trades  Paygrade: 1; Estimated  183  days;   estimated 3 hours  daily



MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.       

Obeys all safety regulations.

2.       

Assists bus driver in keeping assigned school bus clean and free of graffiti.

3.       

Is aware of and respects all rider handicaps and special needs.

4.       

Takes a personal interest in each student and knows them by name.

5.       

Secures non-ambulatory riders in restrain devices showing due regard to the riders safety and comfort.

6.       

Follows proper loading and unloading procedures.

7.       

Treats all students fairly and without regard to race, creed, or status.

8.       

Makes judicious seating assignments and enforces them through proper reporting procedures.

9.       

Relates rules of conduct to riders and enforces them through proper reporting procedures.

10.    

Reports rider infractions promptly and accurately to Student Management Coordinator.

11.    

Courteous and projects image to parents/guardian.

12.    

Respects other school personnel’s duties and responsibilities.

13.    

Projects a positive image at all times when communicating with students, other drivers, and school personnel.

14.    

Works closely with campus personnel in loading and unloading riders.

15.    

Is courteous and responsive on the radio.

16.    

Maintains an accurate, legible attendance record of riders.

17.    

Knows the route and assists relief drivers in following same.

18.    

Properly utilizes lift equipment in loading and unloading non-ambulatory riders.

19.    

Keeps a watchful eye on handicapped riders with a view toward their safety.

20.    

Complies with directions and instructions from Supervisor and performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as may be assigned.

21.    

Maintains positive and cooperative working relationships with colleagues and others in the conduct of district business and demonstrates team work in daily activities.

22.    

Is prompt, timely, and thorough in completing assignments and attending to details accurately and efficiently.

23.    

Meets attendance standards and complies with notification procedures for absences.

24.    

Provides complete and accurate information in the conduct of district business.

        25.

Maintains confidentiality in the conduct of district business.

        26.

Complies with district policies, as well as state and federal laws and regulations.

 

 

EQUIPMENT USED: Wheelchair lifts.

Mental Demands:  Reading; ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress. 

Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
