632B - COORDINATOR, ADVANCEMENT VIA INDIVIDUAL DETERMINATION (AVID)


REPORTS TO:  Deputy Superintendent

QUALIFICATIONS:
1.     
Bachelor’s degree in a directly related field; Master’s degree preferred.
2.     
Valid Texas teacher certificate; Supervisory experience preferred
3.     
Five years of directly related experience, including three years of successful teaching experience with Pre-AP/AP training or
      AVID teaching experience.

SUPERVISES:  NA

JOB GOAL:

1.     
Coordinate support for AVID programs and ensure the implementation of AVID program components according to the AVID
      Methodologies and for facilitating the development of site conditions that ensure effective AVID program implementation.

2.      Demonstrate skills in interpersonal relations and communications.
3.     
Demonstrate ability to provide training and demonstrations.
4.     
Knowledgeable of AVID essentials and ability to evaluate their use.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 3, 219 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

1.       

Coordinate vertical alignment of AVID program through feeder and receiver schools.

2.       

Attend four week long AVID Regional Development Center (RDC) over the course of two years; approved by the Deputy Superintendent.

3.       

Coordinate workshops for AVID coordinators, training for AVID tutors, site team conference for AVID site teams and site team participation in the AVID national or regional Summer Institute.

4.       

Visit AVID school sites to observe and coach the AVID  coordinator, observe AVID site team members, meet with the AVID site team to facilitate progress toward goals identified in the Site Team Plan, Meet with the principal to promote administrative support for and institutionalization of the AVID Program.

5.       

Coordinate the collection of data as requested by the Texas State AVID office and the national AVID Center, and use resources within TISD or region in order to monitor progress and success of campus AVID programs.

6.       

Coordinate the establishment of an AVID policy board or advisory group that is made up of top-level district administration and representatives from local post-secondary institutions.

7.       

Provide and support AVID Awareness through outreach programs and respond to inquiries regarding AVID program dissemination by providing information sessions and program publicity throughout TISD and beyond.

8.       

Coordinate the building of partnerships with college and university staff to coordinate student outreach, tutor employment, AVID summer opportunities, and support for AVID students enrolling at the postsecondary institutions.

9.       

Collaborate with Counseling Services to determine strategies to use with students, parents, and school staff to increase awareness of students’ potential for advanced courses.

10.   

Performs all other tasks and duties as assigned.

11.   

All federally funded incumbents of this position must comply with time and effort reporting requirements through personnel activity reports or periodic certification, as appropriate.

Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate district-wide curriculum functions; interpret policy, procedures, and data.
