634 - COORDINATOR, ADVANCED PLACEMENT


REPORTS TO:  High School Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master’s Degree
  2. Supervision or Mid-Management Certification, preferred
  3. Valid Texas teaching certificate with at least five years successful teaching and/or administrative experience.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

JOB GOAL:

  1. To Mentor/Coach by providing instructional leadership to 9-10 (Pre-AP) and 11-12 (AP) teachers/staff at John Tyler High School.
  2. To assist the campus principals in providing John Tyler High School students with an authentic Advanced Placement, College Readiness, and Post Secondary School Program.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Administrative/Professional Pay Grade 4, 204 days Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.      

Assist in the development the 9-12 Advanced Placement, Dual Credit, College Readiness, and Real World Instructional Program curriculum, including the AP Audit/Course Approval through the College Board.

        2.  

Assist in developing a continuing evaluation of the 9-12 AP, Dual Credit, College Readiness, and Real World Instructional Programs and implement revisions based on that evaluation.

3.    

Collaborate with 9-12 staff to develop, maintain, and analyze curriculum documents based on systematic review.         

4.   

Plan, implement, and evaluate learning objectives, instructional strategies, and assessment techniques.

5.    

Apply research and data to improve the content, sequence, and outcomes of the teaching/learning process.

6.      

Involve instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs; ensure the use of technology in the teaching-learning process.

        7.   

Compile, maintain, file, and present all reports, records, and other documents required by advanced studies.

8.

Assist the director in compiling a needs based budget founded on cost estimates of documented program needs; ensure that fiscal resources address the final assessment of the programs.

9.     

Assist with the implementation of the PDAS; may serve as second appraiser.

10.    

Conference regularly with assigned staff to discuss performance; jointly develop improvement objectives to identify professional growth opportunities for teachers in related programs.

11.     

Demonstrate skill in "coaching" staff; provide technical assistance to teachers concerning the teaching/learning process and encourage improved over-all performance through an instructional leadership relationship.

12. 

Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics for Educators.

13.     

Perform other tasks and assume such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

14.     

Assist the director and principals  in recruiting, selecting, and training personnel for related programs.  Assist in making sound recommendations about personnel, placement, retention, discipline, and dismissal.

15.     

Consult with parents, administrators, counselors, teachers, community agencies, and other relevant individuals regarding students.

        16.

Conduct analyses of related instructional programs and materials and design an alignment and scope and sequence for effective learning.

        17.

Stimulate experimentation, visitation, scrutiny of objectives, and enrichment of curricula and teaching methods by  instructional staff.

        18.

Observe the in-class performance of teachers 9-12 and confer and consult with them regarding results based professional development.

        19.

Serve as a resource person for or the leader of curriculum studies and workshops for related programs.

        20.

Keep informed about current trends and practices in the various subject matter fields and disseminate professional information and materials to related programs secondary school staff.

        21.

Schedule and direct in-service workshops for secondary school staff and participate in department meetings.

        22.

Guide research, textbook selection, examination procedures, the setting of grading standards, and the effective use of technical equipment.

        23.

Coordinate and maintain such record keeping as is necessary per the advanced studies department needs and directives.

        24.

Initiate and maintain effective liaison with higher education and the Higher Education Coordinating Board to keep abreast of new developments and ideas for post secondary education plans.

        25.

Conduct an instructional orientation program quarterly for new 9-12 secondary school personnel in related programs.

        26.

Assist with the AP Incentive Program for the John Tyler campus. 

        27.

Initiate and maintain effective liaison with other school districts, colleges and universities, and the business community to keep abreast of their statistics, new educational developments and ideas.

        28.

Keep current with educational developments and the literature of the College Board, Leadership trends, Post Secondary Planning, and participate in the affairs of state and national professional societies devoted to the advancement of education.

        29. Conference regularly with the director of advanced studies to identify the instructional issues and needs of the program at John Tyler.
        30. Register, schedule and monitor all AP Exams in May of each year.
        31. Communicate with ETS and the College Board to meet registration, payment and course audit requirements.

Working Conditions:
Mental Demands:  Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress; coordinate district-wide curriculum functions; interpret policy, procedures, and data.
