        Job Description

REPORTS TO: Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelorís degree
2. Valid Texas librarian or learning resources specialist certificate or endorsement.
3. Three years teaching experience.
4. Computer proficiency; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Trustees may find appropriate.

SUPERVISES: Library assistants, where applicable
 


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Teacher Salary Schedule ; 187 days  Wage/Hour Status: Exempt


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

 

  1.  

Inform teachers and staff of new materials that the campus library and district IRC have acquired for instructional use.

  1.  

Organize the campus library for effective use by students and staff. 

  1.  

Evaluate, select, coordinate and circulate all library material and equipment.

  1.  

Assess library program needs based on state accreditation standards and district and campus goals; confer  regularly with campus administration to revise and revise program.

  1.  

Promote positive interactions with colleagues and the community.

  1.  

Confer with and make recommendations to teachers and staff on the use of the library and/or library materials for class use.

  1.  

Provide leadership and direction for improvement in the library; evaluates and analyzes the program to determine effectiveness.

  1.  

Keep current on new library trends, technology, etc. through attending professional workshops and conferences. 

  1.  

Complies with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and the local Board of Trustees in pursuing the mission of the school district.

  1.  

Keeps informed about new state and federal guidelines and policies.

  1.  

Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents. 

  1.  

Keeps records such as budget expenditures, shelf lists, circulation records and library book and audio-visual inventories.  

  1.  

Requisition and order equipment, material, supplies for the campus library; process all new library materials.  

  1.  

Receive, distribute, and return all audio-visual materials to the IRC; record, circulate, and maintain campus video libraries offered by the instructional television.  

  1.  

Assess the physical facility needs of the library based on current inventory, facility conditions, and additional equipment needed.  

  1.  

Complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner; keep records organized, up-to-date and accurate. 

  1.  

Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional development activities and curriculum meetings; follows appropriate lines of authority. 

  1.  

Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the TEA Code of Ethics  for Educators.

  1.  

Uses information provided through the District appraisal process to improve performance.

  1.  

Provide campus inservice demonstrations in use, accessibility, and care of audio-visual equipment; teaches library skills and instruction in the use of the library as set forth in the TISD library curriculum.

  1.  

Participates in school and community activities; works cooperatively with others.                

  1.  

Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills.

  1.  

Communicates in a clear, effective, and informative manner.

  1.  

Use developmental supervision effectively and comprehensively with all aides and volunteers.

  1.  

Performs other tasks and assumes such responsibilities as related to the position and as assigned.

  1.  

Annually establishes and meets performance goals.

Computer, copier, fax, and related office equipment

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands:  Reading, ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain emotional control under stress;

Physical Demands:  Bending, stooping, lifting.  Frequent use of computer keyboard.
