History and Purpose

The Tyler Independent School District Board of Trustees authorized the creation of the TISD Police Department in April 2000. Since that time, the department has grown from two officers to thirteen officers and one civilian employee. TISD Police Officers are licensed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCLEOSE) and are listed as peace officers under the code of criminal procedure article 2.12(8).
