About National Junior Honor Society
National Junior Honor Society is an organization for 8th graders at Moore MST Middle School. These are some of the best students at Moore. The NJHS does a large amount of volunteering and service to the community. Members are required to have a certain amount of service hours, and the organization as a whole sometimes takes part in helping the community.

By Laws
Article I
The name of this chapter shall be the J.R. Moore National Junior Honor Society
Article II
The purpose of this organization shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage citizenship.
Article III
The principal shall have the right to veto any decision made by the executive committee or membership.
Article IV
Section l – Membership in local chapters is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by a faculty council and is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, service, and citizenship. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities.
Section 2 – The faculty council shall reserve the right to award honorary membership to school officials, principals, teachers, NJHS advisors, or adults in recognition of outstanding service rendered to the school in keeping with the purpose of the National Junior Honor Society.
Section 3 – Candidates become members when inducted at a special ceremony in the spring of each school year.
Section 4 – A National Junior Honor Society member who transfers to another school and presents a letter from the former principal or chapter advisor to the new school advisor shall be accepted automatically as a member in the new school’s chapter. Transfer members must meet the new school’s chapter’s standards.
Section 5 – Members who resign or are dismissed are never again eligible for membership or its benefits.
Article V
Section 1 – To be eligible for membership, the candidate must be a student in the seventh or eighth grade at Moore MST Magnet School.
Section 2 – Candidates must have a scholastic average of 90 or above when the final grades of all subjects are averaged for the sixth grade; plus, the average of all subjects for the seventh grade must be a 90 or above. (The computation of the final grade average will be dependent upon the spring induction date.) Candidates shall then be evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, character, and citizenship.
Section 3 – The selection of each member to the chapter shall be by majority vote of the executive committee.
Section 4 – A description of the selection procedure shall be published in an official school manner, which is available to students and parents in the school.
Section 5 – Candidates must be good citizens. Over 4 points in citizenship in the middle school years will disqualify a candidate. (N = 2 points; U = 4 points)
Section 6 – No student who has ever been suspended from school will be invited to be a member unless there is a unanimous vote of the faculty council.
Section 7 – No student who has been at OCD (Off Campus Discipline) for more than one offense or who has had excessive visits to the office is eligible to be a candidate unless these is a unanimous vote of the faculty council.
Article VI
Section 1 – The procedure for dismissal shall be determined by the faculty council in compliance with the rules and regulations of the National Junior Honor Society. A written description of the dismissal procedure shall be available to interested parties.
Section 2 – Members who fall below the standards which were the basis for their selection shall be promptly warned in writing by the chapter advisor and given a reasonable amount of time to correct the deficiency in the following reporting period. In the case of flagrant violations of school rules or civil laws, a member does not necessarily have to be warned; a member who is suspended is automatically dismissed unless overruled by a unanimous vote of the faculty council.
Section 3 – The faculty council shall determine when an individual has exceeded two warnings, and he/she shall be dismissed.
Article VII
Section 1 – The officers shall be the president, 1st
vice president, 2nd vice president, secretary, and treasurer.
Section 2 – The officers’ election shall be determined by votes from the
members of the chapter. Election of the following school year’s officers
shall be held in the late spring of the 7th grade after the induction.
Section 3 – The majority of the votes cast shall be necessary to elect
any officer. The chapter advisors shall count votes.
Article VIII
Section 1 – The executive committee shall consist of the
chapter advisors and the faculty council.
Section 2 – The chapter advisors shall have general supervision of the
affairs of the chapter between its business meetings, make
recommendations to the chapter, and determine and perform such other
duties as are specified in the chapter bylaws.
Section 3 – The chapter advisors shall have the responsibility of
ensuring that chapter activities and procedures follow school policy and
regulations.
Article IX
Section 1 – Chapter meetings will be held at the
discretion of the chapter advisors but no less than twice a semester.
Section 2 – Special meetings approved by the chapter advisors may be
called by the president, and the presiding vice president may call
committee meetings approved by the chapter advisors.
Article X
Section 1 – Each chapter shall determine one or more
service projects for each year.
Section 2 – All members shall regularly participate in these projects.
Section 3 – These projects shall have the following characteristics:
fulfill a need within the school or community, have the support of the
administration and faculty, be appropriate and educationally defensible,
and be well planned, organized and executed.
Section 4 – Each chapter shall publicize its projects in a positive
manner.
Section 5 – Each chapter shall have the responsibility for choosing and
participating in a service projects which reflect the particular talents
and interests of its members.
Section 6 – Each member is responsible for a minimum of 6 service hours
per semester; an adult must sign notice of the service hours.
Sections 7 – Any member not earning these hours will be subject to
dismissal.
Article XI
These bylaws may be amended at any chapter advisors of
the NJHS by a majority vote of the faculty council.
Article XII
Section 1 – Dues shall be $5.00 per member. Each member
may be assessed a nominal fee for an honor society T-shirt if the
advisors decide that one will be purchased for the year.
Section 2 – Dues shall be payable to the advisors prior to induction.
