8th Grade Reading

To be successful in the 8th grade, students must have the ability to bring different levels of understanding to the texts they read. We encourage our students to be good readers, but we challenge them to go beyond what they read by asking themselves questions, to think critically, and develop their own interpretations. We require our students to think outside the "box" by relating what they read to what they already know. We use reading as a tool for critical thinking and learning in order for our students to be successful as they promote into high school and in real life.

8th grade Reading is a semester class. Reading backs up to Computer Literacy. Students that have Reading the first semester will have Computer Literacy the second semester and students that have Computer Literacy the first semester will have Reading the second semester.

The 8th grade Reading/ Language Arts classes are divided into two separate classes here on the Moore Campus. Though both subjects are written into the 8th grade curriculum, we emphasize the importance of Reading by offering  Language Arts classes and Reading classes.
