Moore MST Saturday School Information and Dates

Soon we will start our Saturday School schedule. We have scheduled 18 days for this year. These dates are always subject to be changed during the year.

The state of Texas requires mandatory attendance daily.  All absences are coded as the student not being present at school.  Our local policy allows students to make up their work if the absence is approved by the administration as an “excused” absence.  All absences whether “excused” or “unexcused” are document as the student not being present in school.  The State of Texas has determined that the number of days absent, excused or unexcused may not exceed 9 days for campuses with a block schedule therefore students must account for days absent by making them up as the school district or campus policy outlines.  In order to assist students with make-up days the Moore campus will be offering a Saturday School schedule.

Parents and Students are notified of the Saturday School dates every 6 weeks in the school newsletter.  Students requiring attendance are personally given a letter stating the number of absences they have missed to date.  This process occurs on the Wednesday or Thursday before a Saturday School day. Every Moore student may attend Saturday School regardless of the number of days missed. We start inviting students with 5 or more absences and continue this process throughout the school year.

Every Saturday School has an administrator and a certified teacher present. Saturday School starts at 7:00 am and ends at 11:00 am promptly. Students are required to be in school dress code and bring enough materials/books/supplies to keep occupied for the entire 4 hours. Students that show up late, out of dress code and without supplies will not be permitted to attend. Saturday School is conducted in the library.  Each 4 hour Saturday School allows us to document that a student has compensated for 2 days of absences.  The absences will remain on the student’s record with the documentation that the student has compensated for the missed days. Student absences will not be compensated for unless the entire 4 hour period of Saturday School is attended

If a student is assigned a Saturday School as a consequence from an administrator for discipline measures, NO absence compensation will be given for the attendance.

Caution: It is recommended that students plan to attend Saturday Schools early in the year as absences occur.  Students waiting until May to compensate for days missed are subject to not receiving academic credit for the year as defined by the Texas Education Agency.

At the end of the year an attendance committee made up of the Principal, our attendance clerk and some of the Moore teachers will evaluate each student’s attendance file that exceeds The State of Texas requirements for attendance. It is at the discretion of our committee to evaluate any doctor’s notes, extenuating circumstances, etc. to determine credit for the school year. The attendance committee may award credit for the year based on Saturday School attendance and in some cases may assign summer school to compensate for days missed in the event of frequent absenteeism. Our TISD student information system will automatically send out notes to all students who are in danger of exceeding the requirements/days set by the state. If students attend Saturday school from 7:00-11:00 their attendance will serve as documentation of compensation toward two days of absenteeism. This is not required by the state but is recommended to show that students are making a good faith effort to catch up on their work when they are absent. Students must compensate for days missed in some format. The attendance committee weighs the student’s effort to make-up the days missed during the year when evaluating academic promotion and credit. Family vacation trips that occur during the school year are discouraged however; in the event trips are scheduled, written requests must be submitted to the administration for students to complete make-up work.  Students will be expected to attend Saturday School to compensate for these absences. In the event that a student needs to be out several weeks due to illness, TISD provides Homebound services and the student is not marked absent. The parents need to initiate this process with the school Counselors.

This policy is in place to meet the requirements of the state of Texas and to provide a system for compensation of missed days in the event of excessive absences. If you have any question please feel free to contact the school office.
