Goal: When 6th grade students are promoted to the next grade, we would like for all students to type at 30 words per minute or higher
Objective: We will conduct keyboarding time for 20 - 30 minutes 2 to 3 times per week during the math block. Students use a self-paced program utilizing the Alpha Smart Keyboard at his/her desk.
Expectations: Each six weeks students are assigned 4 - 5 lessons to be finished by the end of the six weeks grading period. Half of those lessons are expected to be completed by the three week progress reporting period. If a student is not making satisfactory progress, he or she may be given tutorials and/ or FLEX assignments to make up the lessons.
Grading: Every child receives a grade for keyboarding according to his/her "words per minute" scores and accuracy on the Speed & Accuracy Test, ending each lesson. Usually most students not only complete the required lessons once, but often repeat the lessons to improve the grade. When students do not finish lessons within the required time, zeroes will be recorded.
