The Coaches

Head Coach-Chris Woodard (chris.woodard@tylerisd.org)

Coach Woodard is beginning his 16th year as head coach of the Lady Raiders and is the only coach the Robert E. Lee Girls Soccer program has ever had.  Coach Woodard has coached the Lady Raiders to a combined record of 243-61-14 in the programs 15 years of existence and won the district title 14 of those years.  A former professional player in Florida and Ohio, Coach Woodard attained a U.S. National Class “A” License and has been a N.T.S.S.A. staff coach for the Olympic Development program for years. He was Director of Coaching for the East Texas Spirit Soccer Club for seven years and is currently the Head Coach for the men’s and women’s soccer teams at Lon Morris College.  Coach Woodard and his wife Amy are both graduates of Robert E. Lee and have two children, Caroline and Walker.  Coach Woodard and his family attend Green Acres Baptist Church.

Assistant Coach- Debra Robbins (debra.robbins@tylerisd.org)

Coach Robbins will begin her first year at Robert E. Lee as the assistant coach to the Lady Raiders.  An Exercise Sport Science graduate from The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, Coach Robbins will also be teaching biology and research and design at Robert E. Lee.  Coach Robbins was previously teaching and coaching volleyball, basketball, and tennis at Moore Middle School.  She also was assistant coach for the highly successful academy team E.T. Zoom.  In her spare time, she is very active in the student ministry at Green Acres Baptist Church.

Coaching Philosophy

Our goal is to provide students the opportunity to grow as young women, be successful students, and reach their soccer potential.

The coaching staff makes every effort to model appropriate behavior and expects our players to behave like responsible young women.  Academic success is a must!  Students must pass to play.  There will be a study hall each day during the soccer class and students are required to use that time to improve their academics.

Our soccer program strives to teach players the basic fundamentals, team strategies, and the laws of the game that are necessary to participate at the high school level.  The soccer program at REL has been very successful since it began in 1993.  The Lady Raiders have won district 14 out of the 15 years of this programs existence.  We also play nationally ranked teams on a consistent basis.  We will continue our efforts to field successful, organized, and disciplined teams.

Program Rules

Be Here!  ALL practices, games, and tournaments are required.  Personally notify one of the coaches if you know you have to miss a practice or game. Office number 903-262-2665.

*Consequences for an unexcused missed practice:

1st time: extra work after practice

2nd time: suspension for 1 game

3rd time: removal from the program

*If you are removed from campus due to disciplinary problems, you will be expected to do a 3 mile run AND a makeup workout for each day missed.

*If you are arrested you must notify the coaches within 24 hours.

Be on time! This means to the locker room, field, and to trip departures.  Being late will result in extra work after practice which may give you less time to get ready for the rest of the day.  This means be early!

1st Block Practice Times:

Locker room- 8:45

Check Roll- 8:50

Begin Practice- 8:55

End Practice-9:40

Study Hall- 9:55

Be Prepared! Appropriate shirt, shorts, socks, and shoes (cleats, indoor, or running shoes) are required every day.

Respect People and Property!

*No one is allowed in the dressing rooms but the athletes.

*Keep YOUR locker room clean.

*Lock ALL valuables in your locker.

Maintain Satisfactory Grades! The Lady Raiders pride themselves on not only athletic achievement but academic achievement as well.  Last year 20 out of 23 players were recognized with Academic All-District Awards and 3 out of 3 seniors were recognized with Academic All-State awards.  Last season the team had an average of 95.  In order to maintain this record of high academic achievement players need to expect the following:

*Progress reports and report cards will be checked regularly

*Attendance to tutorials may be required for failing grades.

*If you receive a failing grade you will run 1 mile for each class failed

*For each N received 1 mile will be run

*For each U received 2 miles will be run

Look and Behave Appropriately!  No matter where you are, you will be representing Robert E. Lee and the Lady Raiders.  Your reputation and conduct are a reflection on this program.

No Drug Use! Tobacco, alcohol, or illegal drug use may mean dismissal from the program.  Refer to the TISD student behavior policy.

Consequences are determined by TISD policy or by the discretion of the coaching staff.

General Guidelines

Players must adhere to soccer program rules as well as U.I.L., TISD and Robert E. Lee regulations.

We attempt to place players on teams and position them in a way to maximize their playing time as well as to make them successful.

Tryouts begin the first day of school.  Players are constantly evaluated and rosters are selected prior to the start of the season.  Rosters are subject to change throughout the season.

Playing time is earned not only by ability, but by practice effort and attitude.  It is not earned by classification, personality, or parental influence.

We value every person in the program, but no individual is more important than the team.

Your actions in the class room as well as on the soccer field reflect on the entire program.

Parent philosophies, beliefs and comments are respected but not solicited.

Inappropriate parent/fan behavior can result in consequences for both the person involved and the soccer program.
