and Students Honor TISD Principal
at Retirement Celebration
The public is invited to attend a retirement celebration in
honor of Michael Berrier, Principal of Jones Elementary MST
Academy, Saturday, May 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. A
special recognition by Mayor Joey Seeber will take place at 1:15
p.m.
There will be food, fun and entertainment for everyone to
enjoy. Lunch will be served to all from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30
p.m. The afternoon will close with a softball game and other
activities.
Mr. Berrier has been a principal at Jones Elementary for 23
years. He also served as a teacher for 11 years at Austin and
Jones elementary schools.

Announces District Teachers of the Year

Bonner Elementary Art Teacher Heather Gentry was named the 2008
Elementary Teacher of the Year. She has taught in Tyler ISD for
more than 5 years and is a native of East Texas.
Hubbard
Middle School seventh grade reading teacher Julie Haley was
named the 2008 Secondary Teacher of the Year. She is an
educator that has been with Tyler ISD for more than 20 years and
she even attended Tyler ISD since the first grade.

Tyler ISD could hire a director of student services and a new
principal for Mattie Jones Elementary School at its meeting
Thursday night.
The regular meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday in the
Dr. Jack L. Davidson Conference Center at the Jim Plyler
Instructional Complex, 807 W. Glenwood. Trustees meet at 6 p.m.
in closed session.

TISD Students Learn to Make Good Choices from Pigs
and a Wolf
Young Audiences
of Northeast Texas is bringing Storybook Theatre to Tyler Junior
College’s Jean Browne Theater on May 19 and 20 to perform “Two Pigs
and T.H.E. Wolf” for students from Caldwell, Douglas, Jones, and
Woods elementary schools, and Moore MST Magnet School Theatre Arts
students. This entertaining twist on the classic "Three Little Pigs"
is sponsored by the East Texas Communities Foundation. The hilarious
story is a "hands down" crowd pleaser that emphasizes the benefits
of making proper choices even in the most difficult circumstances.

Tyler ISD is pleased to announce
Patricia Lewis as the new principal for Jones MST Elementary
School. Lewis has 13 years of education experience. She currently
serves as assistant principal at Bell Elementary Global
Communications Academy.

Hires Director of Student Services
Tyler Independent
School District Board of Trustees has approved and named Jeff Collum
to the new position of Director of Student Services. In this
position, Collum will be responsible for working successfully with
school personnel, students and parents to resolve attendance,
academic performance, discipline, and other concerns. He will report
to the Deputy Superintendent of Operations.

School want to let fellow students know that they are ready for a
change. A new student group is forming called SMAC – Students Making
A Change. The group’s goal is promote school pride, student success,
